GEOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT STAFF

Mrs. Anna Dencher has now started her maternity leave; we wish her well. We are pleased to welcome Mr. Chris Rogers, formerly Head of Geography at Marlborough College, who will cover many of her classes for the remainder of the term.

Mr.Andy Palmer and Mr. Nigel Yates have published a course textbook for Edexcel A Geography A Level-available from Philip Allan Updates. They have also published a series of Student Unit Guides and Andy has written sets of Revision Cards for the same publisher.

Head of Department:

Mr A. J. Palmer

Mr Andy Palmer has been Head of the Geography Department since 1995, having previously been Head of Geography and Head of Boarding at Colston's School. He graduated from King's College, London where he also gained his P.G.C.E. He is a Principal Examiner for both Edexcel and OCR at A-Level. Outside of the department, he is a tutor in Farmer House, Head of Cricket and U15A Rugby coach.

Mr N. Yates

Mr Nigel Yates graduated from the London School of Economics in 1971 and taught for many years at University College School, London where he was Head of Geography and a Housemaster. He has worked at Dauntsey's since 1993 and is the Housemaster of Evans House. He is the Chief Examiner for Edexcel A-Level, Specification A.

Mr. A. J. Sheffield

Allister graduated from Leeds University and then joined the army, spending 6 years as a commando. After a short spell in banking with HSBC he decided upon a teaching career and spent a year at Eastbourne College before moving to Dauntsey's. As well as teaching all age groups Allister is a tutor in Forbes House, involved in the Moonrakers programme and is assisting in the coaching of U.15 rugby. In the Spring Term he will assist in the preparation of our team in the Devizes to Westminster canoe race.

Mrs A.C. Dencher

Anna is a Cambridge graduate who returned to take her P.G.C.E. after working in the world of business for a couple of years. She is a tutor in King-Reynolds House, involved with the Moonrakers (outdoor pursuits) programme and is coaching hockey and netball. She is an accomplished hockey player and cricketer. She is i/c Geog.Soc.


Mr. P.J.Thomas

Peter is a Geology graduate of Durham University and obtained Qualified Teacher Status through the Graduate Training Programme after 6 years service in the police force. Peter came to us from Judd School, Kent and is the housemaster of Hemen's House, coaches the Colts B XV and is i/c the Devizes-Westminster canoe race team.

 


Miss L. Scrace

Linda is a graduate of Stellenbosch University, South Africa, and is teaching some Lower School classes in addition to her P.E. teaching and her role as Sports Co-Ordinator.
